Laceyville - Wyalusing: Tale of Two Bridges

36 miles | 2,912’ | 49% unpaved

Ride the hills above the Susquehanna River as this rewarding loop connects Laceyville, Wyalusing, Grovedale Winery, Deep Roots Hard Cider, and the dramatic cliffs of Quicks Bend.

Utilizing two bridges across the Susquehanna River, this ride is bookended by sustained climbs and sweeping descents through pastoral farmland and thick forests. Looping out of Laceyville, riders pass myriad barns and livestock to roll through the historic streets of Wyalusing, where you can stop by the Endless Mountains Heritage Region visitor office and visit Grovedale Winery before crossing the bridge.

Grovedale Winery has also become a favorite stop for bikepackers, generously providing trail magic and rider support during the annual Endless Mountains Grand Depart. Farther down the road, be sure to stop in at Deep Roots Hard Cider for another taste of locally crafted beverages.

On the final descent back to the bridge into Laceyville, keep your eyes peeled for the dramatic cliffs overlooking the Susquehanna River along Quicks Bend—they appear quickly and disappear just as fast if you're not paying attention.

The borough of Wyalusing has a storied past, serving as a population center for various Native American groups well into the 1700s and then to settlers from further East in the 1800s. It started booming with the logging industry in the nineteenth century, and has continued to be a center of shipping and industry, even as the local industries have changed and evolved. On the way into town, welcome signs describe Wyalusing as “Historic, Progressive, Friendly”, which rings true today as the borough maintains its historic district, while also looking toward the future and hosting several events throughout the year, including the annual Wyalusing North Branch Triathlon.

Wyalusing is also home to the Endless Mountains Heritage Region (EMHR), the organization that catalyzed partners to create the Endless Gravel PA route network. Serving Bradford, Sullivan, Susquehanna, and Wyoming Counties, EMHR works to preserve the region's rich history while promoting outdoor recreation, heritage tourism, and community development. Through investments in trails, river access, historic preservation, and destination development, the organization helps connect visitors with the landscapes, stories, and small towns that make the Endless Mountains such a special place to explore.

Just north of Wyalusing is the village of Camptown, which is the basis of the popular American tune “Camptown Races” by Stephen Foster with its iconic “Doo Dah, Doo Dah.” Foster is known as the “Father of American Music”, and “Camptown Races” is just one of his many songs from the 1800s that remain well known today. While the song’s lyrics are about the “race-track five miles long” and betting on the racehorses, today the area commemorates the fame of the song with the Camptown 5k and 10k foot races, where runners and walkers can experience the Camptown Trail for themselves.
