Laceyville: Farmlife & River Views
17.3 miles | 1,774’ | 32% unpaved
Climb above Laceyville for a scenic tour of rolling farmland, quiet country roads, forested gravel lanes, and panoramic views stretching across the Susquehanna Valley.
If you’re looking for a quick spin or an intro to the region, this short route might be the ticket. It has more pavement than any other route in the Endless Gravel network, but it’s certainly not short on views! Riders immediately climb away from the Susquehanna River and spend the majority of the time riding high along paved roads between farms and forested gravel lanes. With countless views of ridgelines across the valley, this is a great ride to do in the late afternoon and catch the sunset just before zipping back down the hill to Laceyville. You’re likely to see animal life as well, with your typical cows, chickens, and other farm animals as well as deer and maybe even a black bear!
Laceyville was founded in 1841, though settlers had been living there for decades, and Native Americans used the grounds as a camp for centuries before that. For riders interested in touring Laceyville’s Oldest House, consider this ride on a weekend. Offering tours every Saturday and Sunday from 1-4pm, May through September, this is the oldest frame dwelling still standing in the Endless Mountains Heritage Region. The original home was built in the 1780s facing the river, but once the main street was improved and sidewalks added, a new front door was built to face the road.
