A gravel bike with 38–48 mm tires is ideal for most surfaces. A hardtail MTB offers extra comfort on rougher sections. Prioritize low gearing, strong brakes, and tubeless tires to handle steep climbs, fast descents, and varied gravel quality across the region.

Expect limited cell coverage, some long gaps between services, and extended forest-road stretches. Always carry:
• Food for at least 50+ miles
• 2–3 liters of water
• Essential tools, tubes, sealant, chain link, and spare brake pads
Good preparation ensures a safe and enjoyable trip. -
The routes pass near state parks, private campgrounds, town parks (with permission), inns, hotels, and Airbnbs. Wild camping is not permitted on State Game Lands or State Parks. Reservations are recommended—especially for the longer routes where daily mileage can vary.

The Endless Mountains are consistently hilly, averaging ~1,000 ft of climbing per 10 miles. Notable climbs on the EM430 include Armenia Mountain, Long Brook, Jamison City, and Helens Road. Check route profiles and climbs on Ride with GPS ahead of time to be mentally and physically prepared.

Wear bright, visible clothing and use a flashing taillight or bike radar on shared roads. Watch for wildlife (especially deer at dawn/dusk), unleashed dogs, and variable gravel conditions. Descend cautiously on steep grades and be prepared for sudden weather changes.

Call 911 first if possible. Consider bringing a satellite messenger and tracker with a SOS function. Always let someone know your route and expected finish time before riding. If you exit early or reroute, update your status to ensure someone knows you are safe.
