Worlds End: Loyalsock Canyon Vista

5.8 miles | 633’ | 100% unpaved

Experience some of the region's most accessible gravel riding on this short forest loop, featuring Loyalsock Canyon Vista, peaceful state forest roads, and easy access to Worlds End State Park.

This short and sweet route features the Loyalsock Canyon Vista, one of the premier and spectacular overlooks in the Endless Mountains. The trailhead includes parking, picnic tables, restrooms, and sweeping views across the Loyalsock Creek Gorge.

At just under six miles and 100% gravel, it's an excellent introduction to riding in the Loyalsock State Forest and a great option for beginners, families, or anyone looking for a scenic ride without committing to a full day on the bike.

Before you start riding, it's worth taking a few minutes to walk the Rock Garden Trail, a short hiking path that winds among enormous sandstone boulders just across from the overlook. While bicycles aren't permitted on the trail, it's an easy jaunt and a unique natural feature. The overlook is also crossed by the Loyalsock Trail, a long-distance hiking trail that traverses much of the region.

Heading south, the route rolls gently along quiet gravel roads through the forest. Along Shanerburg Road, you'll pass several primitive, reservable campsites, making this an easy route to turn into a simple, and very short, overnight bikepacking trip.

From the southern end of the route, it's also possible to extend your ride to Eagles Mere via a rougher double-track trail in the state forest that's open only to non-motorized users. The connector reaches the north side of the lake and creates a rowdy way to link two of the region's signature destinations.

Although the ride includes a few gentle climbs and descents, none of them are particularly steep, and because the entire ride is on gravel roads, you'll encounter very little traffic. If you're staying at Worlds End State Park, either in the campground or one of the cabins, it's only a short drive to the trailhead. Starting at the overlook lets you avoid the long climb from the valley and spend your time enjoying the best riding on top of the plateau.

After your ride, be sure to visit Worlds End State Park itself. The visitor center is worth a stop, and the swimming hole along Loyalsock Creek is the perfect place to cool off on a summer day. Most importantly, don't rush away from Loyalsock Canyon Vista—take a few extra minutes before or after your ride to soak in one of the finest panoramic views anywhere in the Endless Mountains. Nearby in Forksville visit the town's historic covered bridge, then grab a cheesesteak or burger at Big Mike's Steaks & Hoagies, a longtime local favorite that's become a traditional post-ride stop for many cyclists.
