14.7 miles | 1,142’ | 43% unpaved

Quiet gravel roads, rolling farmland, and rich local history come together on this scenic loop from Canton, with sweeping views, historic Minnequa Springs, and a well-earned stop for ice cream at the finish.

This scenic countryside loop offers a superb introduction to the rolling farm roads surrounding Canton, combining quiet gravel, and sweeping valley views. While the route is relatively short, it packs in a surprising variety of landscapes, from working Mennonite farms in wooded hillsides to historic Minnequa Springs.

Leaving downtown Canton, riders pass local businesses and the beautifully restored Rialto Theatre before heading east on Southside Road. After crossing PA 414, the route begins its first sustained climb on Glory Barn Road, transitioning onto quiet gravel as it winds through picturesque Mennonite farmland. As the road climbs, broad views open across the countryside with the Barclay Mountain ridge rising prominently to the south.

The middle portion of the ride meanders across a network of peaceful gravel roads before descending toward historic Minnequa. During the late 1800s, Minnequa Springs was one of northern Pennsylvania's premier resort destinations. Visitors traveled by train from New York City to enjoy the area's mineral springs and grand wooden hotel, which was destroyed by fire in 1878, rebuilt and burned down again in 1903.

The route loops past Minnequa Springs Park and the historic Rockgirt Bed & Breakfast, a landmark with its own remarkable story. Built by the Bishop of Philadelphia—who is credited with writing the famous hymn O Little Town of Bethlehem—the property is now operated by the family of local cyclist Eric Schoonover, who grew up in this house. Eric, a founder of Canton Cycling Club and the Gravel Rats has been an invaluable contributor to the Endless Mountains route network, building community and introducing the best roads to visitors to support local businesses. His family also helps care for Minnequa Springs Park and has welcomed countless visiting cyclists over the years.

From Minnequa, the ride returns to Canton historical downtown via a final descent. Be sure to top off your ride with ice cream from Flavorland to get the full local experience. This route feels much larger than its mileage suggests, blending quiet gravel, agricultural landscapes, local history, and community stories.
