Sayre: Round Top Round Up

47.5 miles | 5,727’ | 64% unpaved

A challenging hill-filled loop showcasing panoramic river valley overlooks, quiet farmland, forest roads, and the distinctive Round Top Park.

Take in the gorgeous views of Sayre and Athens before tackling this short, hilly route that loops out of Round Top Park. Make sure to bring your climbing legs and some good brake pads for this one! Three main climbs pack most of the punch on this route, but the long descents on the other side are well worth the effort. Enjoy a fair mix of riding through farmlands and forests, notably passing a U-Pick blueberry farm (open seasonally) and ATV trails near the end of the ride.

Round Top Park, the largest of four parks in Athens Township, provides sweeping views of the Chemung and Susquehanna River Valleys, making it a great place for fall leaf peeping. It has several pavilions with water and electricity available to rent, playgrounds, a fishing pond, hiking trails, and more opportunities for recreation.

The Round Top OHV Trails are a unique gem in the region designed for ATVs and other “off-highway vehicles”. Adventurous mountain bike riders can enjoy these trails on their own or as an alternative route back to the start of the route. These trails are directional, so make sure to ride them in the right direction (“if you DO NOT see arrows, you’re going the wrong way”), and yield to OHV traffic.
